Greetings from the Deccan Education Society (DES)!

Established in 1884 by visionary leaders Lokmanya Tilak and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, the Deccan Education Society has played a pioneering role in India’s educational renaissance. With a glorious legacy of over 140 + years, the Society today operates 58 educational institutions across Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. It continues its mission through its state-recognized private university – DES Pune University.

Today, more than 55,000 students and over 2,300 faculty and staff are part of the DES community, participating in diverse academic and developmental programs. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, we are committed to introducing innovative courses, skill-based learning, digital solutions, and holistic student development initiatives.

To scale these programs and enhance our infrastructure, we seek CSR funding support for the development of key facilities such as smart classrooms, modern libraries, science and computer labs, and sports amenities.

DES is registered under the Mumbai Public Trust Act, 1950, and the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and is a recognized entity on the CSR Portal of India.

Following is the project in process.

1. Wetland Pond

1. Ability Enhancement Programme

With the support of Paranjpe Autocast Pvt. Ltd., Pune, the Ability Enhancement Programme focuses on strengthening students’ academic skills, confidence, and overall personality development. This three-year initiative benefits 40 students annually through structured learning modules, mentoring, and skill-based activities. The programme aims to bridge learning gaps, enhance communication abilities, and prepare students for future academic challenges. With an approximate annual investment of ₹6 lakh, the project creates a long-term impact by nurturing capable, confident learners and promoting holistic development beyond textbooks.

2. Solar Energy Plant – Towards Green Campus Implemented with CSR support from Paranjpe Autocast Pvt. Ltd., Pune, the Solar Energy Plant has transformed the school into an energy-efficient and environmentally responsible campus. Benefiting over 500 students, the project was completed within two months at a cost of ₹6,99,771/-. Prior to installation, the school incurred a monthly electricity expense of ₹15,000–₹17,000. The solar plant has reduced the electricity bill to zero, ensuring substantial long-term savings while promoting renewable energy awareness among students.

3. Safe Drinking Water – Water Coolers Project

To ensure access to clean and safe drinking water, Copeland India Pvt. Ltd., Pune donated two Blue Star water coolers of 120-litre capacity each. This CSR initiative benefits 525 students and was completed in July 2025 with a total project cost of ₹1,00,300/-. The availability of chilled drinking water throughout the school day has significantly improved student comfort and hygiene standards, particularly during summer months, contributing to better health and well-being on campus.

4. Enhanced Learning Spaces – Classroom Boards

Under CSR support from Khutale Booksellers, Satara, six large classroom boards (8 ft × 4 ft) were donated and installed for students from Std. III to Std. VIII, benefiting 350 students. Completed in August 2025 at a cost of ₹50,000/-, this initiative has strengthened classroom infrastructure and improved the overall teaching-learning process. The new boards enable better visibility, increased interaction, and a more engaging academic environment for both teachers and students.

5. Promoting Indian Classical Music – Tabla Donation

To encourage cultural education, N. Jivaraj, Satara donated seven tabla sets for the school’s music programme. This initiative supports 45 students from Std. V to Std. IX who are preparing for examinations conducted by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahamandal. Completed in October 2025 with a project value of ₹35,000/-, the donation strengthens formal music training and preserves India’s rich classical heritage through structured learning.

6. Cervical Cancer Vaccination Programme

With CSR support from Jeevika Foundation, a cervical cancer vaccination programme was conducted for 90 girl students aged 9 to 14 years on 7 March 2025. The initiative focused on preventive healthcare and early protection against cervical cancer. By promoting awareness and timely vaccination, the programme contributes to long-term health security and empowers students and parents with essential health knowledge.

7. “Aware India” Environmental Awareness Programme

Supported by RESQ Charitable Trust, Pune, the “Aware India” programme educated students from Std. I to Std. X on wildlife, birds, animals, and their relationship with humans. Conducted over six sessions across two months, the programme fostered environmental sensitivity, conservation values, and responsible coexistence with nature. Interactive sessions helped students develop respect for biodiversity and sustainability from an early age.

• Brief Information – in order to creat curiosity and knowledge among the children of primary school classes – 1 to 4, planets-solar system, moon, various replicas, types of rocks, scientific instruments, samples, etc. have been kept. There is experimental material.

Project Name: Solar Energy Project (Solar Panel)

• BriefDescription:
  The solar energy project has been installed on the terrace of Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar Guruji Secondary School. The project benefits all three sections of the school—pre-primary, primary, and secondary. As a result, there has been a significant reduction in electricity bills. The school initiated efforts for this CSR initiative from June 2025 onwards. Valuable guidance and support were received from the institution’s Estate Department, CPC, and the Chairman of the School Committee, Hon. Mr. Milind Kamble.

Student Development Facilities at DES Pune University

The Department of Psychology, DES Pune University, inaugurated the Samvedana Counselling Centre and the Neuro-Cognitive Lab on 20th May 2025 at Cyrus Poonawalla Hall, BMCC Campus, Pune. These facilities have been established to support students’ mental well-being and cognitive development.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Ajay Ranade, Regional Manager, IDBI Bank, as the Chief Guest, with Mr. Shirish Deshpande, CEO, Buldana Urban Co-op Credit Society, as the Guest of Honour. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Ravindra Acharya, President, DES Pune University, and Prof. Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Officiating Vice-Chancellor.

The newly launched facilities mark an important step towards strengthening student-centric support services and promoting academic and psychological well-being on campus.

A neurocomputing lab combines neuroscience, artificial intelligence (AI), and computational techniques to study and replicate brain functions. This lab has transformative potential for society, addressing pressing challenges in healthcare, education, and technology while driving innovation and economic growth. By blending neuroscience with computational power, such labs can create solutions that enhance human life and well-being. Hence, this lab has tremendous potential to cater to various stakeholders of our society and the ultimate beneficiaries in direct or indirect way will be every member of our society including students, parents, doctors, researchers and policy makers.
